The YB-25 was the pre-production service test version developed after the XB-25. A total of 9 YB-25s were built, incorporating modifications based on lessons learned from the prototype, such as a redesigned tail with twin vertical stabilizers and improved engine installations. These aircraft were used extensively for flight trials and operational evaluation by the Army Air Corps to refine systems, armament, and crew layout before full-scale production began. The YB-25 led directly into the B-25A, the first production version to be delivered for service use.
