The MiG-3 was a high-altitude interceptor derived from the MiG-1, built in large numbers starting in late 1940. It featured improved stability, increased fuel capacity, and reinforced airframe components over its predecessor. Although fast at altitude, it suffered from poor low-altitude performance and limited maneuverability, which made it ill-suited for most combat on the Eastern Front. Over 3,100 units were produced before production ended in 1942.
