The Ka-15 was the original prototype developed by Mitsubishi in response to a 1934 Imperial Japanese Navy requirement for a fast, long-range land-based attack bomber. Designed under Hiroshi Sugita and influenced by Junkers’ low-drag monoplane philosophy, the Ka-15 featured a sleek fuselage, twin engines, and lacked defensive armor or self-sealing tanks. It first flew in 1935 and underwent extensive evaluation and revision. A total of 21 prototypes were built and led directly to the G3M1.
